  • She was the leader of Culture Club.
  • She was born in a hospital in Gifu prefecture near her mother's childhood home.
  • She grew up in Aichi Prefecture. As a child she was lively and friendly, and liked to take active roles in things. She was the leader of her kindergarten playground group.

  • She had a part-time job at a Korean restaurant in high school.
  • She decided to audition for AKB48 because she wanted to be an actress. She liked acting out fantasies and role-plays. She originally wanted to be a voice actress, but gave up because she had poor pronunciation.
  • After passing the audition for AKB48 she lived with five other members of the 5th Generation in a dorm for one month. Later she shared an apartment with Oya Shizuka.
  • She is good at academics and was known as "the honor-student idol".
  • She describes herself as competitive and hot-blooded. She has a negative mindset, but also recovers from things quickly.

  • For many years she had a complex about her face, thinking she was ugly. She said in 2008 that she often cried after going to the beautician, because she would have to look at herself in the mirror for so long during the appointment. During the 1st Janken Taikai, she hid her face from the solo cameraman who had been assigned to her, saying she was ugly and did was not wearing makeup yet. The cameraman was confused by this. As a father himself, he said that if he heard his daughter call herself ugly he would be heartbroken. Rie apologized to him and said she would no longer call herself ugly.
  • After the 2009 Team Shuffle, fans commented that Rie moving from Team A to Team B seemed like a demotion. At the time, Team B has regarded more poorly than Teams A and K. Rie commented on this in an interview, saying "I want you to understand that it's not like that at all. I see the transfer positively, as an opportunity."
  • She wrote a skit for the Team YJ promotional event drama called "Yuirgaoka Jogakuin". It was a story of students' school lunch money being stolen. The story was well received, and she said in the future she would like to write more content for AKB48.

  • Her favorite city is Shibuya.
  • She has a habit of saying the words dakeredo (だけれど "but"), choichoi (ちょいちょい "a little bit" ), and kekkou (だけっこう "quite/pretty"). When it comes to kekkou, she emphasizes the "ke" rather than the "ko" sound. This is not the standard pronunciation, but is slightly more common in Aichi prefecture where she is from.
  • In 2012 she participated in the reality TV show "Terrace House" in which she would briefly live in a house with other men and women. Her participation created buzz online, as some fans were happy for her appearing on a popular television show, while others were upset about the romantic aspect of the show and that she would be living with men.
