  • She began taking music lessons in elementary school with her older sister. At first she played the electone, but her teacher told her to play the drums at a recital in second grade. She continued playing drums ever since.
  • Though she had been a good student in elementary school, she was a poor student in middle school and high school. She received low grades and dedicated herself to club activities instead.

  • She began formal vocal training in her second year of middle school.

  • She took over 100 auditions for music groups in high school, but did not pass.

  • In high school a male student from her school was hit by a train and died. There were rumors that it was a suicide, but Yui believed it was not because she had heard the student talk about his future dreams to become a voice actor. The tragedy left a deep impression on her, and she decided from then on that she would never jokingly tell someone to die, and that she would live a life without regrets.
  • When she passed the AKB48 9th Generation audition she was made a Kenkyuusei candidate. There were 18 candidates, who needed to continue taking lessons and being evaluated before being made official Kenkyuusei. Yui still lived in Kyoto at the time, so she would go to school and work during the weekdays, then commute to Tokyo and take AKB48 lessons on weekends.
    • Because shinkansen bullet train fares were expensive, she took the overnight sleeper bus instead. The costs were still high, and she needed to borrow money from her parents to afford the trips to Tokyo.
  • The first 9th Generation members she spoke with were Oba Mina, Shimada Haruka, and Nagao Mariya.
  • She was the only AKB48 member to be from Kyoto Prefecture until Team 8's Ota Nao joined in 2014.
  • She speaks in general Kansai dialect rather than in Kyoto sub-dialect.
  • Her hometown is on the border between Kyoto and Nara Prefectures. Because of this Sashihara Rino nicknamed her "Nara".
  • Her nickname "Yuihan" was created by Sano Yuriko. She is also called "Yokoyama" by Sashihara Rino, Kitahara Rie, and Oya Shizuka. She likes to be called "Yui", "Yuihan", or "Yokoyan".
  • She says she is comfortable talking with other members and even senior members, but has trouble speaking in interviews or MC segments. She finds it difficult to organize her thoughts and put them into words when in front of a crowd.
  • She was able to limbo (bend backwards) under a 50cm high horizontal bar for a television competition.
  • She loves cats.
  • She has gone bungee jumping.
  • She is known to happily receive clothes from other members, even clothes that are not fashionable.
  • Her apartment is notoriously messy. She has tall stacks of newspapers and magazines around her house, but insists that it is only because her cats like it.
  • She likes J-POP and doesn't listen to much Western music.
  • During the 2011 Senbatsu Election she had an infamous hyperventilation attack after her name was announced. It was her first time ranking and she reached Senbatsu. She was so surprised that she began to hyperventilate, and it took her several minutes to compose herself for her speech.
  • She is well known for her role in Bimyo~ (Season 1) as "The Untrusting Senshi: Honmayan".
    • Her role became so well-known that several appearances of Honmayan can be seen in the PV versions for Gingham Check. It is also referenced in the AKB48 Satsujin Jiken Online Video and the video game AKB1/149 Renai Sousenkyo.
  • In 2013 she participated in the "AKB48 Challenge You Can" promotion for qualifications test prep company. She studied and took the exam for a pharmacy administration manager qualification. On June 16th, 2013 she received the test results. She opened the results at a handshake event at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, and when she learned that she passed, her fans cheered with her.

Early Life

2009

  • On September 2nd, passed the audition for AKB48's 9th Generation.
  • On November 15th, had her theater debut with the Idol no Yoake stage.
  • On November 30th, passed the Kenkyuusei Selection Review Examination.

2010

  • On October 10th, participated in her first concert, AKB48 Tokyo Aki Matsuri.
  • On October 10th, was also the first member of the 9th Generation to be promoted. She was promoted to Akimoto Team K.

2011

2012

2013

  • On April 28th, her concurrent position with NMB48 was cancelled during the 2013 Spring Concert.
  • On May 20th, had her last stage with NMB48.
  • On July 22nd, following the graduation of Shinoda Mariko, became the new temporary captain of Team A.

2014

  • On February 24th, during the AKB48 Group Daisokaku Matsuri, was moved to Team K and became the team captain (Yokoyama Team K).
  • On May 7th, had her debut with Team K with RESET.
  • On May 31st, appeared in the AKB48 Mechaike Japan Female Pro Wrestling.
  • On December 8th, the former General Manager of AKB48 Takahashi Minami announced her graduation. Furthermore, Yui would be appointed the role once Minami's graduation was complete.
  • Became a cast member for the movie "Sailor Zombie".
  • Did the voice over narration for the movie "Yume wa Ushi no Oishasan".

2015

  • Starting from January 19th, was a cast member of Majisuka Gakuen 4.
  • On Februrary 5th, her first photobook Yuihan was released.
  • On March 26th, during the 2016 Spring Concert, was moved to Team A and appointed the captancy (Yokoyama Team A).
  • Starting from August 24th, was a cast member of Majisuka Gakuen 5.
  • On December 8th, became the official new General Manager.
  • Became a cast member of Majisuka Gakuen 5.

2016

  • On March 1st, was the leading actress in Episode 41 of "AKB Horror Night Adrenaline no Yoru".
  • On July 23rd, was a cast member of the horror drama series "Crow's Blood".
  • On September 7th, was the leading actress in Episode 21 of "AKB Love Night Koi Koujou".
  • On October 29th, was a cast member of Cabasuka Gakuen.

2017

  • Starting from January 1st, was a member of the television drama series Tofu Pro Wrestling, using the stage name "Long Speech Yokoyama".
  • On August 17th, returned as Long Speech Yokoyama to the live event "The Real 2017 WIP CLIMAX". Alongside Cherry Miyawaki, she fought against Hollywood Jurina and Dotonbori Shiroma. Hollywood Jurina and Dotonbori Shiroma won the match.
  • Was chosen as the ambassador for JR Busses, a Japanese bus travelling agency.
  • On June 17th, during the 9th Senbatsu Election, finally reached Kami 7.
  • On December 8th, was removed as the captain of Team A (Okabe Team A) but still held the role of General Manager.

2018

  • On February 23rd, returned as Long Speech Yokoyama in the live event "The Real 2018 WIP QUEENDOM". She fought alongside Mo~ Mo~ Kawamoto and Aja Kong against Voice Yamada, Kuiuchi Matsumura and Anti-Slip Makiko. Yui's team won.
  • Was announced as a cast member for Majimuri Gakuen.
  • During the idol survival show "Last Idol", was the co-host.
  • Was the host of the variety show "Mirai Monster" on which the former General Manager Takahashi Minami appeared regularly.
  • Appeared in the final of Mechaike Japan Female Pro Wrestling.
  • Had her lead actress debut in the movie "Hannari Girori no Yoriko-san".
  • On December 8, at the 13th Anniversary performance, announced that Mukaichi Mion would become the new General Manager.
  • On December 20th, it was announced that Yui would starr in the 20th Anniversary performance of the opening of the Hakataza theater in Fukuoka, "Croquette Special Performance" by Takeda Tetsuya.

2019

  • On April 1st, was officially no longer the General Manager (Soukantoku) of the AKB48 Group.
  • From July 11th-28th and August 1st-3rd, was part of the cast for the stage drama 'Utsukushiku Aoku' (美しく青く).
  • On September 22nd, was part of the cast for the TBS drama version of 'Utsukushiku Aoku' (美しく青く).

2020

  • On February 2nd, appeared at the Japan Expo 2020 in Thailand.
  • From June 2nd to 30th, was part of the "Shinbashi Enbujou Series 7" (新橋演舞場シリーズ⑦) by the Atami Gorouichiza (熱海五郎一座) theatre unit.
  • On October 20, starred in the music video "Halloween Knight" by XIIX.

  • From February 18th, starred in the 5-episode web drama "Hanare Rarenai" (離れられない) as the main female lead on Youtube. Episode 1 can be viewed here.
  • From August 11th to September 9th, will star in the musical "Catch Me If You Can" (Japanese version) in Tokyo and Osaka.
